Older thread, but just seeing it.

I use the cleaner Tone Tubby Purple Haze paired with the warmer Tone Tubby Red Alnico, powered by a Carvin DCM200L and an Alembic F-2B preamp. I like the way they sound together …warm and clear. Haven’t had any issues with the speaker ratings and power handling. Sometimes I will use a Walter Woods amp with those speaker combinations, sounds good that way too. Note that I am not necessarily looking for a Garcia sound, just the sound I like.

I tried the TT Purple Haze (alnico). I had high hopes as it had Brad Sarno's glowing endorsement - could this be the holy grail? The light(er) weight speaker with the JBL tone?

No. Not for me, anyway.

I had it in a Deluxe Reverb.

I sold it and went back to K-120s.

I did get one of the very first TT Purple Hazes, specs may have changed, YMMV.
