Every once in a while I go on a rant about playing Phil with a pick vs. without. Here's why.
Normally I use this P-bass for JGB tunes only. It's pretty much your average Highway One P-bass (basically an American Standard but with a different body finish and some assembly in Mexico) with a Fralin pickup and a Sadowsky preamp added, and most importanly LaBella flatwound strings.

Not all picks are equal, either. By far the best one for 90's Phil is the Telefunken 1.6mm triangle-shaped graphite pick.
