I've been far and wide to try to replicate the creamy and full overdriven sound that Jerry is able to get during Veneta (8/27/72) with only mild success. It seems from the videos like his signal chain is just the strat -> wah -> fender twin and the wah is obviously not what's giving him the overdrive. I have a twin (stock jensens) and when its up between 4 and 5 it's about how much gain he had but sounds almost nothing like what I'm imagining (my mental benchmark is the opening chords of promised land). Is my preamp set wrong? Is it the pickups? The speaker somehow?
