Kind of embarrassed that I'm just discovering he goes to the neck pickup on Birdsong for his solo. Been searching around YouTube and he's going there every solo, that I can tell. 12/31/87 you can see it clear as day when he flips it there. I thought he never did it, but you learn something new all the time! I know he goes to bridge quite a bit (Cumberland, big river, and others) but just learned about this.

yes, and you can find neck pickup use in parts of Eyes too -

I think we ought not get too caught up, I do tend to stay in the middle split coil like our hero, but mess round with neck for changes in timbre - I particularly like the neck with overdrive or distortion on it, tone knob pretty down

Yes you are correct! And when I hit the overdrive I roll the treble/tone knob on guitar all the way back.
