Does anybody know the weir part for the beginning of He's Gone while Jerry is playing the intro riff? I can't figure out the chords.
Peace,
-Saul

I know this is kind of alot to figure out, but does anyone know the voicings he's using?

I was watching a video of it from a '72 Dead show ( possibly in Europe) and he was playing in some interesting voicings that had a real neat sound to them.

thank you.

In later years he intros in very staccato fashion with some pretty heavy envelope filter effect... check out 7/2/87 for an immense HG.

I've used this site for some time. In the forums, I have always found some useful info. I figure it's time to give back to them. This is what I got from watching a youtube vid. It's a basic outline and not meant to be played note for note. I think Jerry is playing the same thing in 1st position or just E. It seemed to me that bob was playing the main riff. you can add notes from the E major scale to spice this up more if you want. Again this is the riff at it's most basic.

E|-------------------------
B|-------------------------
G|-------------------------
D|-----6--------6--7--7/7--
A|--7--------7--7--9--9-9--
E|--------7----------------

this can be used for A and B during the verses.

E|-----------5-------------7-----7--------
B|--------5-----5--5/---7--------7-----9--
G|-----6-----------6----8--------8-----9--
D|--7----------------------------------9--
A|-------------------------------------7--
E|----------------------------------------

here's another way at it...
Code: Select all

E|---------12-------------------
B|--7-/-9------7-/-9--7--0---5--
G|--7-/-9-----------------------
D|--7-/-9------7-/-9--7------6--
A|------------------------------
E|------------------------------
