Excellent tab of Jerry's more common later version in the key of E on this site. I believe back in 1970 they may of done this in the key of A and a little more strumming then flatpicking. For the most part move the tab up one string to get from E to A and use A7, D7 and E7 chords.

Heres the intro from 9-20-70 which is a really laid back version of the way they did on 5-2-70. The main run using an A7 chord is similar to black peter.

E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|-------2--------------------2-------2-----------------2----------2-----------------2--------------
G|-------0--------------------0-------0-----------------0----------0-----------------0--------------
D|--1h2-----1--0--------------2-------2-----------------2----------2------------1h2-----1--0--------
A|-----------------3--0-----------0--------------0------------0--------------0----------------3--0--
E|----------------------------------------0--2-------------------------0--2-------------------------
just follow with a run (G)(G#)(A) into D7 000212
back to the A7 thing and the run (D)(D#)(E)into E7 022130
and back to A7.

G|-----0-------------0-----0-----------0-----0--------------0-----------
D|1h2-----1--0-------2-----2-----------2-----2---------1h2-----1--0-----

i am looking for tabs that correspond more with the DP v.8 from Harpur college NY may 2nd, 1970 would anyone say that these tabbed out parts match up with that?

the only two versions i am familiar with are that DP v8 and a youtube clip with bob and Jerry playing it on the letterman show circa late 70s or early 80s...
the letterman show version is much faster in tempo than that DP version.

Ok, as I mentioned before, i knew the 1980 Version from Reckoning done in the Key of E. I really think that is the best version of the song. BUT because you asked so nice, i went and listened to Harpur College Version That is in the Key of A7 and the main riff goes something like this(very similiar to Black Peter as someone else pointed out-same key/chord etc

E|---------------------------
B|----------2----------2-----
G|---------------------------
D|--1p0-----2----------2-----
A|-------3----------0--------
E|-------------3p0-----------

A7 D7 A7 E7 D7 A7 etc
