I've become a loyal follower of Uncle Doug's youtube channel, if you are interested in scratch building tube amps, from soup to nuts he's the man. He also occasionally does a repair or clean up on a vintage amp, also very informative and interesting. My guess is that he is a retired teacher or electrical engineer,or both, because he conducts each video like a classroom lesson, with an introduction, a breakdown of what will be covered, the actual meat and potatoes of that video and then a nice summery. He also interjects really top quality tech drawings. I've learned a TON about how tube amps work and I'm feeling ready to maybe buy a kit and try making an amp of my own.

Here's a good place to start.
