Modding A Guitar Soon (Hopefully)

Greetings all, here's the rub.

I recently came into my first H-S-H guitar. Nothing fancy, the price was good and the guitar felt good so I bought it. I'm going to change out the pups here soon and while I was doing that, I figured I would add some coil splitting, a blaster, etc.

The plan is to drop in a BKP Stormy Monday in the neck and bridge and a BKP Apache in the middle. Splitting for the neck and bridge via mini switches. Blaster always on. No OBEL on this one.

Here's the fun part though. The guitar was originally a dual humbucker guitar but the guy had the middle pickup added in and it was just...always on. It's wired in to the bridge volume and single tone.

So, my question is, would it be ok to just add in another mini switch similar to The Gilmour Mod and have a way to turn the middle pickup on/off with a switch? As it stands today, the controls are: Neck Volume, Bridge Volume, Tone, and 3 Way Toggle.

After mods, hopefully, it would be: Neck Volume, Mini Switch, Middle Volume, Middle Pup Mini Switch, Bridge Volume, Mini Switch, Tone, 3 Way Toggle. There is enough room in the cavity that I could add the fourth knob for a dedicated volume control and attach it to the main tone.

I'm sure there are simpler ways of doing this but it's early and I'm not 100% sure why that middle pickup is wired to be always on.

Any help you can give would be gratefully appreciated. Tips, tricks, thoughts, or ideas are all welcome.
