Has anyone ever experienced the Yamaha SSC-500 as a Wolf-ish guitar? I think they were made circa 1982-1990 -- alder body, maple neck of unknown radius/profile. It certainly looks a bit lupine, but no idea of the sound.

Anyone have a view/opinion?

Thanks,

Marlow

I always thought Jerry played Tiger through the 80's, with brief MIDI experiments with Wolf and a black strat. Is it possible people are mistaking the Yamaha for the Ibanez Musician, or even Wolf itself? I'm no expert on Jerry's guitars, though.

Hello All,

It looks like Jerry's has oval shaped dot's, whereas the one's I see on the Bay have circular dots. I wonder if there is a model above the ssc-500...

I read somewhere Jerry and Bobby played on borrowed instruments for the Melkweg show, I would assume what was there at the place? That was a real small, tiny stage venue impromptu show.

Yup, I was wrong. There's more info here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... Review.doc

Robert Minkin, who took the above photo, says "Since most of the band’s equipment was on its way to Paris, they played borrowed instruments. Jerry sported a Strat styled Yamaha 1000 sunburst guitar and Weir, a white Fender Telecaster."

I can't find a "Yamaha 1000" though, except the SG1000, which looks nothing like it.

I'm listening to the show right now on archive.org. Good stuff! But the Yamaha sure doesn't sound like Wolf, though it's amazing that every guitar Jerry played sounds like Jerry, if you know what I mean.

Samson, I think you may have hit the nail on the head!

These guitars are so scarce it's hard to come up with much in the way of specs and details.

On a related note, how much of a role do you guys think Wolf's 25" scale played in its sound? At least, I think it was 25"; you read other places that it was 25.5"

It is much like the SSC 500. Pickups are the same blade design, and toggles/controls are the same, but more of a Stat shape. They are wonderful guitars with real strong pickups. I have an SSC 500, and that is not one.
