Hi. Hopefully this post doesn't get locked too 😐

I'm looking into getting an FYD head. I've never messed with components before; just combos. I'm not going to drop 2k on a Mc, so it seems like people here like the Carvin200. Unfortunately they seem nowhere to be found. Has anyone here ever messed with the 1000? If so, do you recommend, or should I just let her pass by?

Thanks!!

You should be able to a McI for far less than 2K. How long have you been looking?

Lol I'm exaggerating a little. But seriously I haven't found one for under 1k. If I'm gonna drop 1k on an FYD I'd rather try to keep the power side a little cheaper. I'm just probably the least-knowledgable person on this form about rack components, cabs, speakers, etc.

I found a used 200 somewhere online. I'm not opposed to getting it. But if the new 1000 is the same price and also good, I might consider that.

A member of another forum I frequent had a mantra when it came to acquiring equipment: “There will always be another”. It’s true that Carvin DCM200Ls don’t seem to turn up on the used market very often. Having played through one for many years, I suspect that most people really like them and tend to hold on to these amps. But if you keep looking in the usual places, one will turn up eventually.

Monoprice has a 1U stereo power amp. Class D, 2x100 watts into 8 ohms. I have no personal experience with it, but at only $150 it might be worth a try.

I have a Quilter 101 Mini Reverb and the new Carvin Mach 100 2x50 watt power amp pedal. Both excellent for their purpose.

When I was looking into carvin’s pedal power amp I read quite a few reviews that said they got electrocuted by the pedal. So proceed with caution.

Are you sure you don’t mean the Harley Benton pedal? I’ve read some claim it is the same as the Carvin and about people getting shocked by the Haley Benton. While they do look similar, the Harley Benton is not the same as the Carvin. For example, IIRC the Harley Benton specs are 2x25 watts into 8 ohms while the Carvin is 2x50 watts into 8 ohms. I’ve only read positive reviews of the Carvin and no complaints about shocks.

It might just be a timing issue. When I happened to be looking for a 200L early last year there were two for sale. One on reverb and one on eBay. But yeah, I would be slow to part with it.

The two channels give me the ability to run one channel to a D120 and the second to an E120 and isolate or blend them. Priceless

The MosValve 962 also has this capability but you can actually run up to two speakers per channel for a total of 4 speakers with blending capabilities. I own both amps and the MosValve has far superior tone (not even close). But the 200L is nice and light and only takes up 1U in the middle rack so there are trade offs.
