I've been reading different topics here about Jerry's "Bee's in a Box" tone. What pedal was this, and can you give me any examples to go listen to for it?

Been listening to Jerry and the Dead for over 20 years now, but just in the past few been reading up on his gear and how he got the tones he did.

Sorry if this has been discussed, did a search and couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have any examples of this tone? What songs, shows? I'm sure once I hear it I'll know what everyone is talking about. I just keep hearing that term and I'd like to know what it is they're talking about :-)

I'm not familiar with the term, but I would think it's more akin to heavy distortion, like Hell in a Bucket.

Awesome! I got into the Dead late '94/early '95. A bunch of friends got tickets to see them, couldn't convince my parents to let me go, turned out to be Jerry's last show

Lucky bastich! It was my first tape when I got turned on in the mid-80s, and essentially opened my mind to what the band was about. Prior to that I’d mostly just heard Casey Jones on the radio.

That opening note to Dew is burned in my brain forever.

Hey- did you see my wife??!!

OMG - that was your wife?!

Keeding. But it's possible our paths crossed. Barton Hall was a relatively small venue as Dead shows go.

I went to several Barton Hall shows because I was just down the road in college at SUNY-Binghamton. Excellent venue.

Interestingly, at the time, I had no idea the May 8, '77 show would become considered among the Dead's most classic shows.

The Barton Hall show that most left me with my jaw scraping the ground was ELP on January 30, 1978.
