Hey guys!

Thanks to waldo (thanks waldo :-) ) I got one of his buffers to my place in Germany last summer ! Because of other demands I just had the time now to take care of it! Together with the wiring diagram I brought it to a local tech and I just got the guitar back..now I wanted to compare it to the diagram and unfortunately for me (as a layperson) the wiring doesn't look right..

All the info about Jerry's guitar stuff I got from this great community here (thanks for the distribution of this valuable knowledge!!!), so I thought the best option would be to ask all of you about that.. - I attached a link to a photo of the cavity how it's looking now, hope that worked..
Thanks in advance and I hope you can help me out on this one :-)

I don't like the bottom of the buffer against the shielded cavity without insulation like that. Maybe I just can't see the insulation. Does it work?

Thanks for the reply!
No, there's no insulation below the bottom. And when I plug it in there's some weird quiet sound kinda like a messy radio frequency.
Also, waldo's wiring diagram looks different in my eyes!

Hey waldo!
It's the one I got from your website back in summer, called "Wald-Electronics Buffer Preamp Wiring (Pre-Volume Control)" !

Not sure why but your tech wired it POST volume control, which is fine with NO OBEL, but the opamp (LM356) is probably fried with no insulation as the instructions that came with the buffer stated. You will need to order and replace it if has been damaged and insulate that preamp by using a bag like you have done with the battery, or electrical tape or shrink wrap around it or mounted somehow so it wont short out.

Let us know how it works out!

Thanks for your reply!
So indeed, it's wired in a different way in comparison to your diagram, that should be pre-volume control. Also I think the volume pot is still 500k.
Actually I definitely want to include an OBEL setup in the near future, so I have to wire it pre-volume control anyway.
I have no experience in this field, but after this outcome I rather try to do that on my own than giving this to a tech here (unfortunate when you're living on the other side of the Atlantic)!
I'll try it with sticking to the instructions posted here over the time (especially the one by MattMan some time ago!) - hope that works out fine!

Hey guys!
I wanna update you on the problem and thought it might be better to stick with this thread instead of a new one.
I got a new Buffer from Waldo, installed it and also made my try with the OBEL. As I understood it, when engaging 2 cables in one mini toggle switch position the effects chain should be bypassed, so the clean signal comes out. The other toggle switch position should then engage the OBEL.

That's my issue now:
If I put the toggle in one position there is no signal coming through at all, doesn't matter if the OBEL switch on the OBEL box is "on" or "off". Also no signal when I just play with a normal mono cable (in this case I need to put the switch the other way to have a signal).
When I put the toggle in this other position, signal (including effects) is coming through but only when the OBEL Box switch is on "off". When it's "on", only clean signal without effects signal.

This is my wiring:

I hope some of the OBEL-experts can have a look and of course, any help or suggestion is highly appreciated.

The one posted by MattMan on his band's website. Also had a look at the OBEL instructions he posted in one of the previous related threads here. I think the diagram is also linked in there.

Every time I have had an issue with an OBEL not working properly, it has been the result of inconsistencies with how different people wire their junction boxes.

And in every case, the fix has been the same: switching the positions of the two wires on the middle posts. In your case, putting the yellow wire where the white wire is now, and vice versa.

Dunno if that'll do the trick for you, but it's probably worth the 30 seconds it will take to find out.

It's hard to discern ...where is your volume pot. I am late to this thread...

Your mini toggle...where is that gray wire going from the mini toggle center?

Double check your OBEL jack lugs and make the orange from the mini toggle is "tip" and the green is "ring". That's your send and return...

Looks you have those backwards

Tip = Effects Send
Ring = Effects Return

Should be a standard but don't believe it is. As you can see they can be moved if wanted or needed thus why we still run into the issue with the OBEL. .YMMV

Thanks for all your replies guys! Much appreciated :-)

That is a picture of the whole cavity - to make that complete:

So I guess that will be the solution: Switching the wires of Tip and Ring of the OBEL jack. I'll make the orange Tip and the green Ring.
I'll keep you updated. Thanks so far!
