I was recently listening to a recorded interview with Jer from Portland in '77 where he had mentioned using Vinci strings, how they were all steel instead of nickel wrapped, and how this made them about 50% more magnetically efficient as compared to nickel, but that it also caused them to die relatively faster. Seeing as Vinci is no longer in business, I wonder if anyone has ever given the D'Addario ProSteels a try. I currently use their NYXLs and I think they're great strings; don't get me wrong, they're not Vinci's, but D'Addario clearly makes some great strings. With the ProSteels being all steel, I'm curious if they would be a solid alternative for a more "true to Jer" string. If anyone has tried them and has any feedback, I'd love to hear it!

Unless your guitar has stainless steel frets, be careful - what I've heard from other users (I've not personally tried them) is that the all-steel strings eat nickel silver frets.
