When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Doom Flamingo is my co-guitarist-in-my-own-band's nephew's band.

This version sends chills down my spine. At the risk of blasphemy, an inspired interpretation like this one is, to me, worth more than 50 cover bands trying to copy the Dead exactly.

Once again, RUKIND's YouTube button isn't working for me but you can click on the link if you're open to giving it a chance.

A great cover brings a new take, or invites a different look, at the original artist's vision and lyrics. A couple of showcase examples that come to my mind immediately are Joe Cocker's cover of I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends, and Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Aong the Watchtower. This cover, to me, falls into this category. I get a different feeling and vibe from Doom Flamingo's Touch of Grey than from the Dead's original version. Not better - different. In the end, we'll still get by, but exactly how we get there, emotionally and process-wise, I like DF's new take a lot.
