Let your inspiration flow! Lookin' for our drummer. Walk in situation.

Established Grateful Dead band seeking great drums. Primarily Dead covers, but figure 90/10 mix of Dead/Other stuff. For the near term, this is a single drummer Dead configuration.

Us: Core group has been together for 20+ years. We're lead guitar, rhythm guitar, keys and bass. Three solid vocals. Rehearsal every Monday in Union County NJ. Try to gig about once or twice a month. Have played Stone Pony, Crossroads, Mexicali Blues, The Saint and lots of lesser dives. We tend to keep about 40 songs in rotation, bringing in a few at every rehearsal, putting a few away at the same time. There's a definite focus on well thought out arrangements and vocal patterns with segues into and out of jams/songs. We often have more than one arrangement for a song, using one or the other(s) at different gigs.

You: You're very familiar with GD tunes and the different arrangements from different eras. You don't need to have every song memorized, but need to be familiar enough to hear the songs clearly in your head, drive the rockin' parts, hold everything together when the jams get weird, and stay locked in during the changes. You need to love playing this genre. You know how to play the spaces. Having a great sense of time (including 6, 7, 10 and 11) and subtle taste is more important than flash and sizzle. If you're up for developing arrangements and/or bring in new tunes, have at it; that's great! Age is not important. With 20 years under our belt, yes we're a bit grizzled.

So... the priorities are that you play tasty and well, play well with others, and can work the GD genre. Vocals are a plus, but it's OK if you don't. You should be able to devote a modest amount of time each week to homework and be able to make it to regular Mon. evening rehearsals (just need to bring your sticks, pedal and pies... skins are supplied by professional studio.) Should have transportation, gear for gigs, and no ugly habits that would detract from the music.

Next: shoot me (Mark) an email telling us why you're a good fit for this gig and we can then connect by phone and take it from there. Would be great to trade MP3s (we will share with you anyway), but if not. . .it's OK.
