Hi, I'm doing some archival research on the Grateful Dead and SF in the 60s music scene. I keep noticing this flag or logo and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the band:

then slightly different one at press conference at 710 ashbury for the pot bust in 1967

Let me know if you have any info about it, thanks!

My theory: it's a cartoonesque nod to mj

Why:

Verbiage said, " (b) palmately compound leaf"
Wiki'd it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaf
Verbiage said, "Palmately compound leaves have the leaflets radiating from the end of the petiole, like fingers off the palm of a hand, e.g. Cannabis (hemp) and Aesculus (buckeyes)."
