Slightly different take on intro notes:

E-17--15-17-
B---17-----17-15
G----------------16-14--12-12
D-----------------------------14
A-----
E-----

My take on repeating lick in the beginning after full intro lick(I think)

E------------------------------
B--------------------------
G---------------2-----------
D--2-------2--------2---2-5p4p2--2---
A-------2----3h4--0--3h4--------4---
E-0--3h4--0------------------------0

So a shout out to jdarks who had this right. I stand corrected. With the help of slowing down the version from 77-02-26 that sealed it...

Intro lick

E-17-14-15-16-
B---------------17-15
G---------------------16-14--12-12
D------------------------------------14

Easier to play as well ;-)

What 's your take on the Jerry part behind Bob's vocals ?
Sounds like Jerry is finger picking the part.
Sounds like he is hammering and pulling off notes.
I always just play it straight and safe ......
You got something you like for it ?
:D

2nd part of his original post- and yes, he notated ho's & po's. Looks pretty darn close to what I play there... actually I have a guitar handy and it is almost the same as what I play except I pick each note of that little down run at the end that BB notated as pulloffs. As far fingerpicking, well Garcia almost never purely flatpicked, throwing in his ring finger wherever it was handy. oops I let the cat outta the bag

This song always intrigued me. Being more of a Jerry guy, I wasn't as into Bob songs but this one I loved everytime I heard it and never tired of it. I've always had difficulty with it, mainly because I've looked for a way to work it solo acoustic, which is kinda nuts, but wtf. What I could really benefit from is someone doing a vid of this song and these licks/parts....hint....hint....

What TS said - though I'll use the pick and middle and ring fingers

here's some stuff from this thread

Another take on those deals

I kinda prefer when Jer would play E blues pentatonic for that fill instead of the chromatics, but here's a slightly different line.

D--7-8-9--6-7-8--5-6-7--4-5-6----

The next I alter slightly with just 2 notes from the E to the A

G-1-2-3-4---
D-2-4-5-6---

Into this lick while were here

E------------------------------5
B------8-------7-------6-------5------
G---9-9-9---8-8-8---7-7-7---6-6----
D--7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7-------

One note for the end jam. Adding E7 between the E and A in the E A C jam adds a nice flavor and you can clearly hear Jerry doing this at times when he'd rip up the chords at the end.
The first is end of verse - 2nd end of verse into 'there's a band...' 3rd 'there's a band...'

This is on my list 'to do' list vid wise
