I'm not sure I hear the C before that first G, but it works fine as a transition chord. I'm on board with the other changes, though.

On the D string it is timed: 1 (Chance) 2 (to) 3 (go) then slide up to the G and back to the C to start the verse
This matches whats going on in the solo so maybe that is why I am hearing it but it works for me.
