you can also do this at the end of the neck starting with the open A string or an octave up starting on the A on the D string on the 7th fret.

Without lookin at the page right now. I believe they were for the beginning of the beat and the root note. Like if it was Franklins on the 1 beat under the A note he would put it and so on.
