Howdy everyone. I've been a lurker on this forum for a bit and have finally joined up. I play guitar with a Dead tribute band out of Syracuse,NY. We call ourselves Pearly Baker's Best and are currently doing some dates backing up David Gans. I have been pretty resistant to "going down the rabbit hole" and copping Garcia's licks and tones since I don't wish to be pigeon holed as another "Jerry" guy. This band is getting pretty good and I've always loved the Dead so it's so much fun to really dig in and learn the tunes. I've been in tons of blues, rock and country bands where I'd have to sneak Dead and JGB covers into. Anyways, the point of this rambling introduction is I'm taking the dive and assembling a small Garcia rig. I currently use a Phiga Bolt through a Dr Z Maz 38 Sr head into Z-Best cabinet. Love the tone but really looking to get closer to Garcia's magic recipe at a manageable volume. I've read just about ever single post on this forum pertaining to Jerry's rig and found it to be very informative. Big thanks to everyone!! Anywho, anyone got an MC50 they want to sell?

Hey Frank

Try a Sarno Pre Amp - hand built in the USA ; Tube based Twin Style Tone under 10lbs - paired w a Mosvalve power amp - solid state very loud very clean
Add some vintage JBLs and you are RIGHT THERE

I got together w some other Philly area players for a pick up jam it last week end - it sounded like this - excuse my sucky playing

Welcome aboard and to the rabbit hole!!! You'll enjoy it for sure. The Mc250 is perfect with the SMS! I can't get enough of it and it's pretty versatile if ya tweak the eq and use something other than a super II guitar, etc. I have a Phiga too but I also play a semi hollow with p90's and it's a blast to play with that setup, non Jerry stuff. Can't go wrong with the Mosvalve either but a Mac is pretty sweet. All in all, the choices you stated above are on the right track. Good luck!!

IMHO, Nothing beats the power supply of the real deal Twin Reverb with a properly modified preamp section into a Mcintosh with JBL's.

Hey Eric- Welcome! Lot's of company in this rabbit hole. I'm up in Oswego, haven't been down to see you guys yet but read about the band a lot in the P-S and online. I've got a Phiga Tiger and a MC50, not for sale but keep looking- they're around.

Good luck. The best tone I've had is with an MC50 and Sarno Classic preamp. I also used the Mosvalve 962 power-amp for a long time that was very good. The best Jerry tone I've recently 'heard' (Jerry's Middle Finger) is the Quilter Mach 2 and that's what I'm now using - still dialing it in, very happy with it for a variety of reasons (light, versatile).

+1 Although others come close, I agree with this statement.
