I'd never noticed the Ab+ chord. (if that's what it's called - might be Ab+5 as it's adding the #5th)

Pretty cool. Similar to the Dear Prudence progression, less the 7th chord

Actually, "Ab+5" would mean the same thing as Ab+. The raised 5 is what gives a chord an Augmented quality.

And I think you are correct-...ish. I kind of reverse-engineered how I play it (in the 1st-fr position) and found that on the last beat of the Fm measure I do drop the root(but keep an F on top), which creates (I believe?)an Fm/Maj7 chord #7-E,3-Ab,5-C,1-F; which, if you remove the root entirely and have the maj7 on top, could also be called an Ab+ 1-Ab,3-C,#5-E. I think Fmin/Maj7 might be the more conventional way of seeing it. werxferme!
