I first heard the practice while watching TV advise from Larry Carlton. Now it is a way of life for me. I will keep the electric guitar in my hands unplugged while watching and for the most part just do scales and fingering exercises.

I teach a couple of guys and tell them the same thing. Even if you're are not playing it just keep it in your hands and you will start to tinker with it.

So If you want to learn how to play the guitar quickly, watch a lot of tv!
