Has anyone experience of playing through combos specifically designed for acoustic guitars?

Are they a great improvement on the 'ordinary' combos when using acoustic instruments?

Am thinking of upgrading as we are about to try playing around some of the local bars which often host 'jam nights'

Thanks

I use a LR Baggs pre-amp pedal and go direct into the pa. It also makes the sound more palatable to a regular guitar amp.

The fishman combo sounds ok, but why waste your money just play through the PA and spend your cash on something else like a fishman matrix pickup or a lr baggs, or a volume pedal or whatever

microphones are the best choice...FUCK ALL YOUR FACTORY INSTALLED PICKUPS AND FUCK GOING STRAIGHT INTO THE PA...u want your guitar to sound like you guitar does...not like some clangy electronic signal...but mics are often not enough signal in loud bars/clubs(if your not good enough to get everyone to shut up and listen  ) but most sound men will urge you to get some amplification....

the fishamn active pickup/preamp combo is good...they also make this pedal that is pretty interesting i think its called the aura but im not sure...it does a decent job at electronicly recreating a true acoustic sound...
