I'm reading a book that states "Do not play the top note of the scale twice". Is this the last note of the scale if you just play through it once?

The context of the "Do not play the top not of the scale twice" is that they ask you to play it forward and the backwards. So I'm thinking they're saying don't play the last note twice before backtracking.

Thanks

E|-----------------5--7--9--7--5--------------------
B|--------5--7--8-----------------8--7--5-----------
G|--6--7-----------------------------------7--6-----
D|--------------------------------------------------
A|--------------------------------------------------
E|--------------------------------------------------

In other words do that. Note the highest note is the 9th fret (C#) and only played once so you can flow up and down ya know.
