Stanley Clarke and the guy from Sly & Family make me happy...there's lots of great studio players these days it seems.

That's Larry Graham from Sly's band who is pretty much acknowledged as the inventor of slap style playing. Later had his own band Graham Central Station. Back in the day the slap style used to be known as Grahaming.
Agree with everything stated but I have to add Paul McCartney to the mix. Also who doesn't love the likes of Marvin Isley, Bootsy Collins, Verdine White

yeah that doesn't surprise me...I was actually hearing it in my head as I wrote that while thinking could that possibly be a keyboard?

No worries, as a bass player and a Doors fan that's one of those facts I keep handy in my head for situations like these.
