This is a generic alternate to the one provided in the tab section by EB.

One of the other ujb threads asked for the"So Far" intro - which is an example of JG improv through the intro, which is essentially how he'd done it for quite a while. He'd start with a few of those resonant notes we're all familiar with and then go.

---G--------Bm--------C---------D

E----------------------------------------
B--12--12-15--------12-------------------
G----14-----14-12-14--12--12-14-11-------
D-----------------------14--------12-----
A-----------------------------------12---
E----------------------------------------

---G--------Bm--------C---------D

E----------------------------------------
B--12--12-15--------12-------------------
G----14-----14-12-14--12--12-14-11-------
D-----------------------14---------------
A----------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------

I play the notes for G Ionian.

G A B C D E Gb (F#)

I don't know if that's the key or not, but those are the notes. I've given up figuring keys. I'm usually wrong.

I'll continue my mantra; when soloing pay hommage to the chords!

This one, a bit more than others. If you listen you can hear JG leaning on the chord structures.

I'll tab out some examples.

---G--------Bm--C-------D

E---------------------------------------------
B---------8-7---------------------------------
G-------7------9-8----------7-----------------
D--8pu9------------10-9---7-------------------
A-----------------------9---------------------
E---------------------------------------------

pu = pullup

In the above the G chord is clearly voiced at the beginning and the D at the end.

---G---------Bm-------C-----------D

E--12-12po10--10--12--12-12----12-10---------
B-----------12-------------13--------------
G----------------------------12------------
D-----------------------------------------
A-----------------------------------------
E-----------------------------------------

po = pull off

Here the C chord is voiced.

These "chord resonance" additions give the solo a flavor more attuned to the song structure.

Don't get me wrong, JG would go on some ferocious riffs, decending and ascending thirds and fourths etc, that paid more attention to scales than chords (per se). Even within those riffs chords are highlighted in more subtle ways i.e. beginning and ending phrases or pauses within phrases. The more obvious chord references can add a sweet touch.

i have also been listening to the From the vault series with Anaheim and Oakland '87

what i have come up with after a semester of theory classes and a classical guitar class is:

e--3/7--7-10-8-7---8-8--10-8-7---
B------8---------10------------10-
G---------------------------------
D---------------------------------
A---------------------------------
E---------------------------------

there are some lower notes i am leaving out after that last A (10th fret B string) because i am not sure what they are as of yet.

i am guessing we have the same notes written only at different positions i am going to try your version and see how it sounds... thanks for your followup, i am, not on this board to regularly so i hope this hasn't been too long for a response.

one thing i notice is Jerry's alembics seem to have quite a few more frets than your average electric guitar which i am guessing alters the voicings at particular frets...
