For some strange reason I cannot get this song to sound right. I think RU kind doesn't have the proper chord formations/key. Maybe Im wrong and it's me :( Anyway their must be a better ver. than this. Any Ideas. :?: :?:

It's mostly right. Try your guitar and amp settings.

Drive = moderate
Guitar volume = high
EQ = standard (not scooped) with extra highs

The last changes before the chorus are tough.
Play it with barre-chords that's how I got it.

Hey does anyone know the intro? I tried using the Amazing Slower Downer on it but I'm not very good at transcribing. Any help would be appreciated. Peace.

I'll try to use the tabcreator to tab out my likely bastardized version. I play this tune with a buddy of mine quite a bit.

There's actually a recording you can check out if you're interested at all. Check out www.rockcreekdivide.net Launch the player and then scroll down to Stealin'. Probably bastardized ;-) I'll see if I can't figure out the tabcreator. Someone might be able to then take that and figure out my errors. My ears ain't the best

Can someone post the song with the chords? I see they've been taken down since the last time I looked at this one.

Thanks!

i cant find the chords for this song anywhere on the site, can somebody put it up for me it would be greatly appreciated

I play it with three chords: G, C, D

Something like the following:

G
Put your arms around me like a circle round the sun
C
I wanna love ya mama like my easy rider done
G
Don't believe I love.......
C
Stealin' (still on G), stealin, pretty mama don't ya tell on me
G D G
Well I'm Stealin back, to my same old used to be

The walk down the G scale figures prominently throughout the tune to keep it interesting, since it hangs on G for quite some time. Again, all caveats in place.

STEALIN'
written by Gus Cannon

G
Put your arms around me like a circle round the sun
C
I wanna love you moma like my easy rider done

CHORUS:
G
You don't believe I love you, look what a fool I've been
G
You don't believe I'm sinking, look what a hole I'm in
G G7 C
Stealin', stealin', pretty mama don't you tell on me
G D G
I'm stealin' back to my same old used to be

The woman I love she's just my height and size
Married girl, come to see me some time

-CHORUS-

Put your arms around me like a circle round the sun
I wanna love you moma like my easy rider done

-CHORUS-

Stealin', stealin', pretty mama don't you tell on me
I'm stealin' back to my same old used to be

You may know this but there is a book of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman tunes out that has Stealin' tabbed out in it...lyrics, chords and leads. Check amazon.com. I think I bought each for about $10. There are lots of other great old timey tunes in there too. Louis Collins is another favorite of mine.

I have both the Grisman and Garcia books and both are great. I tend to play mando more often than guitar but I often use the Jerry book more often since it has the lyrics in there and I can be a really space case when it comes to remembering lyrics.

Stealin' is a pretty easy tune to feel out leads on since you're playing over G, C, and D the whole time. I like to use the typical blues scale with chromatic triplets and little slides here and there. Dont forget to add a little swing to everything.
