How is it possible to play just one chord for an entire verse?
What am I not seeing here?

Let's start by looking at it differently...

Can you hear the C7?
If so, where do you think it should change?

There is actually alot of movement going on in that verse, if you listen, but it is all still C7. Try using some half step slides and descending sixths during the verse to liven things up a bit.

I'm no expert but to my understanding Bob did a lot with inverted chords and unusual voicings that most guitarist wouldn't even think of doing.

I know that when I play it I add in some double stops that are in the C blues scale.

Yikes, you all so blatantly show me how much I don't know.. :?

half step slides and descending sixths?
inverted chords and unusual voicings?
double stops?

Uhm..Anyone care to explain (with examples?Image)

Double stops are hitting 2 notes at once.

Try this... It may not be what he does every time
but I hear something very similar in many versions.
Code: Select all
     C7
e ---8-----11-8---------8--------
b ---8-----11-8---------8--------
g ---9----------10-8----9--------
d ---8----------10-8----8--------
a ---10-----------------10-------
E ---8------------------8--------

The timing on the jg vamp is a little funky on this one. Delay, one sharp strum on the C at the 8th fret (? no guitar in hand), delay pull up a C7 from the 10th to 11th fret, hit the F note... aw crap, I'll just tab the damn thing.
--C
e-----8----11pu12----------------------
b-----8----10pu11----------------------
g-----9----11pu12-----10-8h9--------------
d-----10-----------10-10----10---------
a-----10-------------------------------
E-8-----------------------------------

Then there's this ditty dropping from the C to the F

--C----------------F
e----12--10--8--6---5---------------
b------------------------------
g--12---10--9--7---5--------------
d-----------------------------
a-------------------------------
E---------------------------------

If you're referring to my tab it is on my list of 'vids to do' and I'm just about ready to get going on some more vids.

Are you talking about the C7 slide up? This is how I see that.

e--11/12
b--10/11
g--11/12

The timing and nature of this vamp was always a bit of a mystery though once I took close look I seemed to get a decent grip on it. I think I got this from an early 70's version.
