I was listening to 5-25-77

http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05- ... efail.shnf

the other night, with headphones, and I couldn't get over how tallented Bob really was. I guess what I'm saying is that Bobs solo / fill work was quite intricate and to be honest, amazing.

This is what I truely appreciate about the Dead is that once in a blue moon you will catch a riff from a show you never heard before and just sit back and say, dog garnet this is amazing.

Anyhow, I thought I would share what I heard on this show with my friends here.

Peace and have a good night.

There are lots of people who don't have a clue about what Bobby was able to do. Most of the time, he's very subtle. In fact, during his Ibanez years, one really needs to listen hard to hear him. But if you have the ear, it can change your perspective on Bobby and on guitar playing in general.

Great stuff!

Nuttin more appropriate for true Dead appreciation is a 76-79 show and a pair of hi quality headphones.

The mixes were extra great those years and the band was HOT overall those years. Lots of good stereo separation.

Other "subtle" contributions can be heard on Casey Jones.

 YES!!! I've always been a HUGE proponent of Bobby's guitar contributions to the band!!! I can't find the link, but if you are able...check out the version of DEAL on Vancouver 1973. Bobby is all over it....gorgeous playing.

When I went to the first 3 shows of Summer tour 1991, Bobby's guitar was CRUSHINGLY loud in the mix...and he played STELLAR stuff....all 3 shows. The Scarlet > Fire from Deer Creek 91....oh, baby. Check out his riffing at the beginning of the FOTM. Just great. Crunchy distortion....that inverted squishy envelope sound. Just great playing.

IMO, the most underrated musician in the band.

BOBBY, I love ya brother!!!

I concur......

Bob's playing is effortless, exquisite, and such a huge complement to Jerry's playing.

Yeah, and don't forget his contribution with that keen fashion sense.

There's a US Blues from '74 that always gets me. I think it's a DP, my stuff is on loan right now so I cant be sure. But one thing is for sure: Bobby's fucking brilliant and that's that.

Nice rec levels to pick up Bobby's charming clanging and wanging. The guy's a player unlike anyone else...

But did anyone notice he completely drops out during the chorus???

EVERY show from May 77 is sick, IMO. Buffalo War Memorial, 5/9/77 with a GREAT Help > Slip > Frank's to open. Of course the 5/8/77 is the most widely acclaimed GD show of all-time....Cornell.....

But that 5/7 is wonderful, ain't it?! The feedback in Bertha opener and Donna & Jerry going "Wooo-hooo!" kills me every time!!
