They're just various riffs in D Mixolydian.

The flatted 7th (F instead of F#) in the mixo scale does not sound right to me. I use a straight D major or penatonic scale. Here's a few riffs that I do:
Code: Select all
E|---------------------------
B|--7------------------------
G|--7------------7-----7-----
D|--7-------7h9-----9--------
A|-----8h9-------------------
E|---------------------------

E|---------10-----10-------------------
B|--10-----10h12--10--12b12p10---------
G|--10h11-----------------------11-----
D|-------------------------------------
A|-------------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------

The F# is in D mixo and the F comes in during the chorus. I forgot to mention the chorus is F major in my first post.

My bad, I got mixoed up.
D mixo = G maj (ABCDEF#G)
D maj (ABC#DEF#G)
I flatted the wrong 7th becauase D mixo does not always equal G maj. The 7th in D mixo is the C not the F. This scale shit gives me a headache. I actually play it correctly just transcribe it wrong.

Only diff between a D maj and D mixo scale is the C vs C#. I like the C because the tune has a C and G chord, so I change my vote to D mixo. Sorry Kevo I shall never cast doubt your way again. Well maybe never.

By the way. Since the song has a D, C and G chord is it in the key G? I always considered in the key of D since the main part of the tune is in D.

I do believe that was the consensus in a different thread a while back. And F over the chorus as you noted. I happen to pay more attention to the chords/changes myself.

The song is G maj for sure. The chorus is simply C maj (hence the F instead of F #).

The only sharp in the song is F#... and it has an Em as well (hence the Gmaj). If you just remember to hit that F OR stay off the F# while soloing during chorus, its the right track.

i am really into the slower acoustic version of this song, ie Dick Picks vol 8.

that being said i found this is a fun little riff to play using the open chords as a lead in to the D chord

E|-------------2--
B|-------------3--
G|--5--4--2----2--
D|-------------0--
A|----------------
E|----------------
this is my first use of the tab creator so sorry if its sloppy that's supposed to be an open D on the end.
