jbl k-120….nos?

Postby wleeds » Tue Nov 03, 2015 5:40 am

i have a line on 4 x k-120's

the seller states they are practically brand new as they are in an old cabinet belonging to his dad and wet barely used. A little dusty but not worn

what should I look for to ensure there are no defects and what would you say is a fair price?

Have you heard them? Always check for voice coil rub. The NOS in good shape usually go for around $200 to $250 a piece unless you get lucky. Of course buying more than one should lower the price a little.

hey gang

first post. feels like returning home after a long strange trip.

altec 417's are an excellent US speaker similar to JBL's of that era. I just had 2 altec 417's impeccable reconed by vin-tone in rhinebeck, NY. they sound like angels singing.

personally I would be reluctant to buy a 30 or 40 year old JBL, pay top dollar for it cuz its 'original' and then worry about blowing it. I'd hunt around for blown ones and get them professionally reconed, break them in a little and then sandblast the walls with them. will they sound exactly like the originals? maybe yes maybe no, but in the mix I'd be hard pressed.

keep the light burning bright deadheads
