What does "on the.bus" mean to you?

What does"on the bus" mean to you?

Can you be on the bus without taking or ever having taken psychedelics?

Is GD related?

Is it just being part of the scene?

Or is it a term just for the pranksters back in the day?

To me it's a state of mind that can be turned on by music, mediation, awareness, community, etc...

At the time, pre summer of love, LSD was still legal so, yeah, on the bus meant turn on (to psychedelics) as a means to explore and achieve conscious innovation. But do you need psychedelics to explore consciousness? Nope. Certainly music gets you there, and certainly hard core improvisational music like the GD gets you there. For us GD heads and (recreational) psychedelic explorers, "on the bus" has become a sort of mutual awareness phrase that can immediately create a bond with others who proclaim to be on the bus; this bond is created even before you learn their name and become friends. I do think that the phrase is rather limited to the unique context I described.

I agree. I've been "on the bus" then since my first show in 91 when I first left home. Saw tons of shows up and down the East coast and was turned on to playing too. Played in a few GD/ Dylan cover bands. However, I always knew my personality would not mix with acid/shrooms and such. Although I smoked quite a bit back in college. Because of this lack of experience and desire to do psychedelics, I've always felt this odd disconnect on tour and with some friends. Although no one has ever really done anything to make me feel that way. Weird huh?
